With 30 Years experience Breeding excellent ISDS registered Working sheepdogs, the world famous renowned Border Collie breeders, offering puppies for sale to working homes as sheepdogs, search and rescue, Performance Sports competitors (Agility, Obedience, Working Trials) or in exceptional cases to active family pet environments. .
From 2005, Janet Beale has led the way in DNA health tested Breeding stock to produce healthy border collie puppies which will excel at any job from herding, sheepdog trials, Obedience, Agility, Active Family Pets, Search and Rescue to name but a few.
She is using her in depth knowledge of bloodlines to produce puppies with low COI (co-efficient of inbreeding) and therefore, reduce the disease risks by maintaining genetic diversity.
Janet also uses modern science based puppy rearing techniques such as Avidog and Puppy Culture, whelping and rearing those pups inside her home (not in a kennel), in order to offer YOU exceptional puppies with the highest level of health and socialisation possible.
She also started and runs the ISDS Border Collie Health Forum on Facebook.
Selection of Breeding stock
We select our breeding stock based on an uncountable number of points but mainly on TEMPERAMENT & HEALTH, without which you don't have a working dog regardless of its instinct & ability to herd.
After this we select on the numerous traits including at the top of our herding list is their natural herding instincts shown BEFORE humans interfere with the instinct to herd.
Dogs usually fail to reach their potential for any job (including as pets) due to - amongst other points human error humans lack of training experience lack of proper rearing & socialisation of the puppy/dog temperament irregularities of its parent and ancestors prior to adding to our breeding program, we test "trainability" by working with the dog in basic and complex obedience tasks, ongoing herding training and simple everyday living .
As every dog has faults, ultimately the big question is the dog easy and biddable to live with and amenable to strangers and calmly adaptable to new situations?
Experienced Sheepdog Trainers
To help all ASTRA owners achieve the maximum potential in their dogs, dog breeder, Janet Beale using over 30 years of experience training and working sheepdogs on Hill farms throughout the UK, as a farmer and Contract Shepherd, will guide owners free of charge with email, video etc. and offer ASTRA owners reduced rates on one to one sheepdog training sessions and group clinics.
During 1991, then 1996 through to 2000, Janet was very successful, winning and placing regularly with her Border collies, in Open Sheepdog Trials.
Her outstanding foundation bitch Eryri Nan was placed second, by one point, in the Prestigious Deerplay Hill Double Gather Championships.
She gave up competing at regular trials to concentrate on her sheep farm and contract shepherding in Scotland during the 2000's.- it was at this time she also started to produce more border collie puppies from Health tested parents offering the puppies for sale, as performance sports competitors. These puppies have reached the top levels in Agility, sheepdog Trials and Working Trials and Obedience and consequently, have spread the ASTRA genetics worldwide.
